The original plan was to announce the winner on 8 April already, after the Demo Day event. Due to the exceptional situation, we had to cancel the event and find another way to arrange the final competition. Now the finalists will pitch their ideas to the jury in a virtual event on 6 May 2020. The jury will then choose the winners of a prize sum of 5000 euros. In addition, Roister Marketing Oy chooses the team to which they hand over the marketing service package.
Six finalist teams satisfied the pre-jury’s criteria with their business ideas, including a SaaS service, a technology solution, and a wellbeing and health service.
The jury consist of:
Butterfly Ventures Oy
Assi Group Oy
Etula Group Oy
One of the finalist teams tell why they decided to join the competition
Kirsti Hupli, Mari Ravattinen and Kati Kiiski, three experienced professionals of social, healthcare and wellbeing services, joined the competition with their forest therapy center idea. What drives them all are a desire to promote wellbeing and an interest in how mind power and nature affect people’s health.
"In Japan, forest therapy centers are mainstream, and it is an outright shame that Finland, the land of forests, has not utilized this yet”.
The team is convinced that forest therapy centers will grow into a big thing. Their idea is to start building a network of forest therapy centers to complement the traditional public health system and make it available for citizens and health tourists. Kiiski refers to several national and international studies on the positive effects of nature on people’s health. “In Japan, forest therapy centers are mainstream, and it is an outright shame that Finland, the land of forests, has not utilized this yet”, she points out. Ravattinen tells that in her job sees the challenges caused by stress, rush and lack of self-management in workplaces. The team believes that forests can offer a solution to these challenges, among other issues. “In a forest people can connect in a unique way, as their true selves without titles”.
How does the team see their idea will develop in five years?
The team believes that there will be an active nature therapy center in South Karelia, with both domestic and international partners. The idea of a forest therapy center will have become a well-known and important tourism service in South Karelia, which attracts international tourists to come here and become empowered in Finnish forests.
If the forest therapy center idea wins, the team will use the prize sum to productize the service, to make if available for everyone, to network in and outside Finland, and to pilot the forest therapy center.
